Herzog De Meuron - Plaza de España, Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2008. The extreme geological conditions that formed the Canary Islands are the inspiration of the design. Highly textured black concrete pavilions mimic lava rock, and a large water basin, that fills with the tides, is divided with a tectonic-like line. Photos (C) Iwan Baan.
